Marian Drandell Gilbert

Welcome….to my website and my blog! Music has been a part of my life since I was very young. My father played cornet and I accompanied him at every opportunity. He was my first teacher, and he lit a fire in me for pursuing a career in music.
Making Music....my greatest thrills are playing concertos with an orchestra! I have been blessed to solo with the San Luis Chamber Orchestra over five times, as well as with the San Luis Obispo Symphony. Duo Appassionata, a violin and piano duo, was a popular ensemble. Numerous solo, chamber and church concerts have kept me busy. Choral accompanist with Cuesta College and Cal Poly, SLO. I have studied with many wonderful teachers, including the renowned Botso Korisheli.
My .... community involvement has been rewarding. I’ve served on two different Symphony Boards: The SLO Symphony and The Woodlands Texas Symphony, I am a 2011 Mini Grant recipient from ARTS Obispo, I’ve performed concerts to benefit many wonderful organizations, including: The San Luis Obispo Symphony, The Mozart Festival (now called Festival Mosaic), ARTS Obispo, French Hospital, Hospice, The Monday Club, Congregation Beth David, Big Brothers Big Sisters, American Association of University Women (AAUW), National Organization for Women (NOW), and The Woodlands Texas Symphony.
Musical Summers …. I have spent my summers studying and performing at noted venues such as the Franz Liszt Piano Festival in Sopron, Hungary; The Music Academy of the West; The Aspen Music Festival, InterHarmony Internationales Musik-Festival in Tuscany, Italy, and the Van Cliburn Festival, Texas Christian University, and SoCal Chamber Music Workshop.
Masters .... in Piano Performance, Manhattan School of Music, New York; Bachelor of Arts in Music, University of California, Santa Barbara.
More…..Volunteer Coordinator, UCLA School of Law; swimmer, bike rider, collector.
